Qantas A330 Door Trainer Upgrade Programme Announced

Monday, September 01, 2014

RP Aero Systems is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a contract by Qantas to upgrade and rework four A330 Door Trainers at their Sydney and Melbourne Training Centres.

The reworked Door Trainers will includes all the necessary functions to meet the modern day training needs with added value such as auto-close and out of the window visuals.

The twelve year old trainers will be decommissioned and reworked on site to mitigate the effects of downtime on the intensive Qantas training programme.

This equipment was originally built by RP in 2002 and they have served continually since then offering between 99.2% and 100% uptime, until the projected availability of some spares and the aging computing hardware prompted some obsolescence management.

The computing platforms, electronic control systems, motors and gearboxes will be replaced with current specification parts. No mechanical work is necessary to the other parts of the trainers.

RP engineers will travel to Melbourne in January 2015 and spend a week on each device, moving on to Sydney to repeat the tasks. All equipment will be completed by the beginning of February.

RP Aero Systems is pleased to continue their excellent relationship with Qantas, and look forward to maintaining the reliability of these four trainers by applying this mid-life update.
